Job Summary/Responsibilities

STUDENT ASSISTANT: The Hicks Honors College is seeking Hicks Honors Students to serve as Student Assistants – to perform a variety of administrative support needs for our College, and provide answers to common questions of new student, visitors, and callers.

  • answering, screening and transferring phone calls
  • receiving and directing visitors and clients
  • general clerical duties including photocopying, faxing,
    scanning, and mailing of documents
  • preparing and modifying documents such as Hicks Honors Updates
  • preparing agendas for meetings
  • scheduling and coordinating meetings, and appointments
  • managing incoming correspondence
  • managing incoming office visitors
  • preparation and assistance with events and special classes.

Applicants for this position must be eligible for and accept Federal Work Study funding; must be enrolled in at least six semester hours; and must have met satisfactory academic progress requirements in order to receive financial aid.

Location of work primarily in Hicks Honors College Office, may also be required to work at different locations on Campus for special events.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must be enrolled in the Hicks Honors College and should have:

  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • computer skills and knowledge of relevant software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel)
  • knowledge of operation of standard office equipment (e.g., copier, fax, shredder)
  • knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures and systems (e.g., filing, record keeping)
  • a strong desire to serve students, faculty, staff and other clients of the Hicks Honors College.
  • the ability to work with minimal supervision, be a self-starter, able to take initiative, and executing daily routine tasks. The ideal candidates should possess superior judgment and professionalism when corresponding and interacting with clients and team members.
Preferred Qualifications

Must be a Student in the Hicks Honors College. Must have a positive and professional demeanor.
