Job Summary/Responsibilities

The copy editor is responsible for copy editing stories and posting the material to the digital platforms. The copy editor fact-checks stories from the editors and reviews them for proper grammar, punctuation and AP style. Stories requiring major revision or additional information should be sent back to the editors. The copy editor creates a multimedia story page using all of the edited materials. The position requires a detail-oriented person who is familiar with grammar, punctuation and AP style, as well as the best examples of digital story telling.

Required Qualifications

The copy editor must:
Ensure stories are concise, coherent and formatted for layout
Alert the Digital Manager when a story is missing an element (ex. photos, video, etc.).
Offer feedback to editors on strengths and weaknesses of stories
This job description is not intended to be all inclusive. Employee may be asked to perform other related duties as required to meet the on-going needs of Spinnaker.
Proofread final digital story pages before they are published, paying special attention to headlines, cutlines and last-minute additions
Be continuously enrolled at UNF for the duration of the position and not be on academic probation or suspension according to the most recent UNF course catalog
Must complete for weekly lump-sum payment:
Attend weekly staff meeting
Fulfill at least five office hours of copy-editing and posting consistent with job standards above.
