Job Summary/Responsibilities Video/Audio Director
The video director is responsible for coordinating the gathering of video and audio components of all applicable news and features stories. That starts with making sure video/audio training is provided to all editors and reporters who need it. The second directive is to participate in the assigning of stories, making sure that all editors are mindful of the needed video/audio components of a story. The video director also makes sure minimum quality requirements are met and leads the video/audio team in requested videography and editing of video and audio for Spinnaker stories. The position requires someone familiar with advanced video journalism needed for both online and TV formats. This includes basic news principles such as fairness, balance, slander, fact-gathering, news judgment and interviewing, and must be familiar with industry staples such as VO-SOTs and packages. The video/audio director coordinates the checkout and in and inventory of all Spinnaker News newsgathering equipment.
The video director must:
Coordinate with editors to make sure video training and standards are provided to editors and reporters
Coordinate with editors to make sure video/audio are gathered for stories assigned to reporters who can’t gather those forms
Recruit, interview, hire and supervise staff
Make sure that the video/audio parts of the story are ingested in the proper place on the network, edited as needed, and communicate with the content editor that the video/audio is ready
Report to the content editor when a video story will not be completed on their deadline(s), and work to update the deadline(s)
Report to the Spinnaker Media adviser or office manager immediately when equipment is broken or missing.
Be continuously enrolled at UNF for the duration of the position. Must not be on academic probation according to the most recent UNF course catalog.

Required Qualifications

Must complete for weekly lump-sum payment:
Attend weekly News production meeting to share in planning for stories that will be assigned and to fully discuss all appropriate video/audio angles and resources for the stories unless excused
Attend or send assistant editor to morning Breaking News meeting in-person Monday-Friday unless excused
Edit at least two publishable, compelling, timely video/audio story components per week for each paid videographer and one for each volunteer, including at least one face-to-face edit for each story.
Build and post office hours for your team within the first week of the semester; the hours should include the minimum office hours needed to meet regularly with videographers and reporters.
With leaders’ approval, fill in as a videographer when there aren’t enough videographers on the team to cover something.
Fulfill at least 10 weekly office hours, in addition to attending weekly meetings.
