General Description / Primary Purpose

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in mathematics or statistics and hold the rank of associate or full professor with tenure, and have relevant administrative experience and a record of excellence in teaching and research. The area of specialization is open. The chair will be expected to enhance the undergraduate and graduate programs, strengthen research, and promote the department’s profile.

The Department Chair is the chief administrative officer of the department. They provide leadership to the faculty in teaching, research, and program development.

The Chair performs typical administrative duties such as conducting faculty evaluations, overseeing department budgets, hiring new faculty, and assessing programs. This individual is expected to be an effective liaison and department spokesperson to other constituencies in the university and the community.
