General Description / Primary Purpose

The University of North Florida Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures seeks a full-time, non-tenure earning, renewable instructor to teach all levels of Spanish language. The position begins August 6, 2018. The teaching assignment for this position requires a 12 credit hour per semester (3-4 courses) teaching load. The instructor must have a minimum A.B.D. (all but dissertation) in Spanish language, Hispanic literatures and cultures (field open) from an accredited institution, but the PhD is preferred. At least four years’ experience teaching Spanish at the university level required. Evidence of native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English required.
The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher who can teach all levels including beginning, intermediate, and third-year grammar, conversation and composition. Candidates with teaching interests in language, literature, culture and technology-assisted language learning are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a history of successful teaching and the ability to work with a diverse student population.

Prepare materials and teach assigned courses in all levels of Spanish language (12 credits per semester). Other duties include holding required office hours, department service for student recruiting and assessment, student club activities and / or community outreach.

ABD in Spanish, Ph.D. preferred
Four years experience teaching Spanish at college-level.

Departmental Requirements

At least four years’ experience teaching Spanish to a diverse group of students at the university level, demonstrate a commitment to excellence in classroom instruction and possess native / near-native fluency in Spanish and English. ABD minimum, but PhD in Spanish language, Hispanic literatures and cultures preferred.
