General Description / Primary Purpose

This is work performing preventive maintenance on and making repairs to campus small gasoline engine equipment, diesel tractors, cars and trucks, electric carts, industrial compactors and non-power equipment and attachments; includes the fabrication of metal repair parts and other implements using machine shop equipment. This position is designated as a Tier 2 respondent for designated campus emergencies and events. In the event of a declared campus emergency, the position incumbent will make every effort to return to campus when directed.

Essential Duties

Job Function

Maintains all grounds maintenance and construction equipment. Maintains Physical Facilities and other selected campus vehicles. Maintains campus electric carts. Metal fabrication, welding and machine work. Orders repair and replacement parts. Information processing and record-keeping. During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.

5% Supplementary responsibilities. a) assists other trades as needed; b) campus emergencies; c) work orders; d) keeps assigned shop area neat and clean; e) pumps out water from waste oil containment area.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in automotive repair; or a high school diploma and three years of experience directly related to the job functions and possession of a driver’s license. Directly related college coursework or training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
