General Description / Primary Purpose

The Department of Art and Design at the University of North Florida seeks a tenure track Assistant Professor in Sculpture. Our program seeks an educator and artist experience teaching a variety of sculpture techniques, a robust practice, and a deep understanding of history and theory of contemporary artistic production as it pertains to sculpture. The successful candidate will be expected to teach three courses a semester with summer teaching optional. Courses in 3D design and introductory to advanced courses in sculpture will be taught on a rotating basis. A MFA and three years of university teaching experience are required. Evidence of effective instruction is also required.

An M.F.A. in Sculpture or a closely related field is required.
Candidates must demonstrate evidence of the following in both their teaching and studio practice:
· Working knowledge and professional experience in maintaining and operating foundry equipment and facilities.
· Expertise in foundry, including: operation of induction furnace and iron cupolas, mold-making (sand casting, ceramic shell, rubber molds, silicon molds, mother molds), casting procedures in aluminum, bronze, and cast iron.
· Knowledge of metal fabrication, including mig, tig, oxy/acetylene, stick welding, and plasma cutting.
· Knowledge of wood fabrication, including experience with woodshop equipment, tools and processes.
· Knowledge of cold casting techniques including resins, plastics, foams, and castable stone.
· Knowledge of fiberglass construction.
· Knowledge and professional experience in public art and large-scale outdoor sculpture.
· Knowledge of up-to-date health and safety operating procedures.
Undergraduate teaching responsibilities will be in the areas of foundry, foundational sculpture courses to advanced sculpture courses, community collaborations, and supervision of upper-level independent study in all areas of studio practice.
